Living small

We live in a tiny house or a little bungalow as I like to call it. When we were pregnant with our fourth baby one of the questions we got asked frequently was "when are you going to move into a bigger house?" Because there was just no way we could have four kids in a 1200sq ft, 3 bedroom house? Or at least that's what EVERYONE assumed.
Steve and I made the choice that staying here, in our home, was not only the best choice financially, but the best choice emotionally. It took us awhile to make this decision, almost 18 months to be exact.

But this is the first place that we have really ever made our home, we've brought two babies home here, first steps have been taken, we've had dance parties in the kitchen and fires in the backyard, we've grieved, loved, laughed and cried. I just (at this stage in our life) can't see us raising our family anywhere else. With that being said, living in a small house with four kids, two adults and a pup, is tough.
Making the decision to live small is tough too. We have limited closet space and three bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms for six people. I'm constantly trying to get rid of toys and clothes and come up with new solutions to store what we do keep. I've scouted instagram, Pinterest and many, many blogs to get ideas on how to make this living small thing work.
I also feel like after a lot of changing, i have finally found our style. A little modern, a little bohemian, a little kitch with a lot of comfort. After compiling lists and lists of possible to dos, I've finally come up with (somewhat) concrete ideas to help make this home livable and lovable for years to come.

1. Shelving.
In all the rooms. To store toys, books, trinkets and treasures. Something like these;

2. Clean white walls.
To make the rooms appear bigger and not contrast with the all the other goods. These have always been my white inspiration rooms.

3. Baskets.
Lots and lots of baskets. To store everything from toys to toilet paper. A few of my favorites:

4. Under bed and under sofa storage. For all the junk that doesn't need to be on display. Think something like these:

5. After we've hit the basics, I'm hoping to add some new art, rugs, lighting & pillows. But more on that later....
